Tips To Ensure Your Next Hire Is A Good Fit

Interview with new hire

In a world  where virtual interaction is becoming the new norm, finding out whether a prospective hire will be an asset or burden can be more complicated than it would otherwise. In this day and age of change in professional environments, there have been many shifts that employers must account for when hiring someone to work with them. Where virtual and hybrid work environments are becoming the norm, it’s crucial that employers implement new strategies to vet applicants.

To ensure that your next hire is a perfect fit that understands the goals of your company and what they need to do to help achieve them, consider the following tips:

Don’t Rush Into A Hire

One of the major pitfalls that companies fall into time and time again when hiring is rushing right away into a hire, typically to fill an immediate gap. This can lead to immediate issues, as it doesn’t give you enough time to review a candidate’s work history—which can be very telling. A candidate’s work history can show if they bounce around from job to job & never root themself in a company, as well as show whether or not they ever tried to climb up the ladder within their previous companies.

You don’t want to hire someone who doesn’t plan on staying, or isn’t motivated enough to grow your business. Take your time, and find the right fit.

Match their Qualifications To Your Needs

When you go into hiring a new employee, there should be a checklist of requirements. This guarantees that potential employees meet or exceed the needs of the position. Requirements can include previous work experience in the position, certifications, education, etc.

Engage With The Candidate

You know your team better than anyone, so it’s important that anyone you hire gels well with the rest of your employees. During the hiring process, be as hands on as possible with a candidate to really get to know them beforehand. This way, you learn more about the person behind the resume, such as their goals and ambitions, what they enjoy doing outside of work, etc. This gives you a bigger picture of the person, and how they interact daily with the rest of the team. You can also get a read on their work ethic, and if they’re able to match the demand of a position.

Assess Them Beforehand

It feels great to find the right employee, but before signing them on, we strongly recommend evaluating their skills beforehand. An assessment test will give you a very clear picture of the type of work they would be able to provide on a daily basis if employed, and how well they know the material.
